Plugs consist of plastic or of wood. You can decide between plugs for shallow and deep water and between swimming, floating and sinking versions. Plugs for shallow water are identified by their small and specially formed shad.
Swimming and floating plugs move differently depending on their shape. Round shapes move quickly and long narrow shapes move slower.
Plugs for deep water have big and special formed shads. Plugs for deep water are used in 4m depth and below. They can even go 7m to 10m below the surface. Anglers who want to fish in lower depth need the help of paravan, lead and downrigger. The diving depth of the plug is not an exact data and depends on several factors like the line, rig, lure, speed and rod.
Normally cast plugs float more shallow than trolling plugs. For them a certain distance is needed, until the lure has reached the right depth and after a short while it is brought back to the surface. It is different for trolling, because when the lure has reached the right depth, it stays there. There is no better lure which can stay constantly in an exact depth without any help.
It is easier to fish with swimming and floating plugs than with sinking ones. A constant trolling without problems is possible with this lure. Sinking models can reach greater depths than swimming models. It takes a moment until the lure has reached the desired depth and can stay there as long as you wish.
Small damages can change the movement of the plugs. Floating plugs can be slowly guided and can stand in the water. Such a slow guidance is useful for low temperatures. Plastic plugs often have built-in rattles - that has proven very useful for catching fish. The sound of the rattle attracts fish over wide distances even in muddy water. They also support the biting impulse.
Plugs are simple lures which catch fish in nearly every situation. But varied guidance of the rod brings more success for fishing. Stop and go techniques and every change brings more bites.
